Do meaningful work from wherever you do your best work.

Winged Wolf Innovations is a consulting, training, and technical assistance firm that helps mission-driven organizations navigate complexity, strengthen leadership, design better systems, and create sustainable impact.

We work with public agencies, nonprofits, community-based organizations, coalitions, and cross-sector partners to solve real-world challenges. Our work is collaborative, adaptive, and grounded in the belief that strong systems are built by people who are supported, trusted, and encouraged to grow.

At Winged Wolf, careers are not built around a single narrow lane. They are built through exposure to diverse clients, industries, communities, and challenges, giving team members the opportunity to learn continuously, lead thoughtfully, and contribute to work that matters.

Why Work With Us?

Location Independence

We believe strong work can happen in more than one place. Winged Wolf supports location-independent work whenever project needs allow, giving team members the flexibility to work from the environment where they are most focused, balanced, and effective.

Our model values accountability, communication, and results, not unnecessary office time. Whether supporting a virtual facilitation, developing a strategic plan, analyzing community input, or preparing client deliverables, our team is trusted to manage their work with professionalism and care.

Leadership Development at Every Level

Leadership is not limited to job titles. Because Winged Wolf’s work often focuses on leadership, organizational culture, systems change, and capacity-building, our team members have regular opportunities to practice the same principles we teach and facilitate with clients.

Working here means developing skills in facilitation, project management, strategic thinking, client communication, systems analysis, public speaking, and adaptive leadership. Team members are encouraged to grow into stronger consultants, facilitators, analysts, trainers, and change agents.

Exposure to a Wide Variety of Clients and Industries

One of the most exciting parts of working at Winged Wolf is the variety. Our projects may involve human services, housing and homelessness systems, public health, behavioral health, workforce development, nonprofit leadership, governance, community engagement, organizational development, or cross-sector collaboration.

That variety keeps the work engaging and helps team members build broad, transferable expertise. You will not be stuck doing the same task for the same type of client every day. Instead, you will gain experience across sectors, communities, and problem types.

Mission-Driven, Systems-Level Work

Winged Wolf works with organizations that are trying to make communities stronger. Our projects often involve improving services, strengthening partnerships, supporting leaders, designing better programs, gathering community input, and helping organizations move from ideas to implementation.

This is a good fit for people who want their work to have purpose, especially those who care about equity, community impact, organizational learning, and practical problem-solving.

A Collaborative and Adaptive Culture

Our client work is built on collaboration, and our internal culture should reflect the same value. We believe good ideas can come from anywhere, and we value people who are curious, thoughtful, honest, and willing to learn.

Consulting requires adaptability. Priorities shift, client needs evolve, and each project brings a different context. We look for team members who can stay grounded, communicate clearly, and approach complexity with creativity and care.

Real-World Learning, Not Just Theory

Winged Wolf’s work is practical. We do not just create plans, trainings, or reports for the sake of checking a box. We help clients apply what they learn, make decisions, and move toward meaningful change.

Team members gain hands-on experience with facilitation, needs assessments, stakeholder engagement, training design, strategic planning, governance support, data analysis, technical assistance, and implementation support.

Our Current Hiring Model

Winged Wolf Innovations is a growing consulting, training, and technical assistance firm. At this stage, our available opportunities are currently structured as 1099 independent contractor positions, rather than traditional W-2 employee roles.

This means that individuals who work with Winged Wolf in these roles are engaged as independent professionals or consultants. Contractors are typically brought onto projects based on organizational needs, client contracts, project scope, availability, and alignment with the contractor’s skills and expertise.

As a 1099 contractor, you are generally responsible for managing your own taxes, insurance, retirement planning, equipment, work schedule, and other business-related expenses. Winged Wolf does not currently offer traditional employee benefits such as employer-sponsored health insurance, paid time off, unemployment insurance, or retirement matching for 1099 roles.

We believe in being transparent about this structure so candidates can make informed decisions about whether this model fits their current professional and financial needs.

What 1099 Work With Winged Wolf Means

Working with Winged Wolf as an independent contractor may be a good fit for professionals who value flexibility, autonomy, project-based work, and the ability to contribute their expertise across a variety of mission-driven efforts.

Contractors may support projects such as facilitation, training development, community engagement, research, writing, data analysis, technical assistance, strategic planning, grant support, project coordination, or subject-matter consultation.

Because our work is client- and project-based, contractor opportunities may vary in hours, duration, scope, and frequency. Some projects may require short-term support, while others may involve ongoing collaboration over a longer period of time.

We strive to communicate clearly about expectations, deliverables, timelines, compensation structure, and project requirements before work begins.

Who 1099 Opportunities Are Best Suited For

Our current opportunities may be a strong fit for people who:

  • Already work as independent consultants, freelancers, trainers, facilitators, writers, analysts, or subject-matter experts.
  • Are comfortable managing their own schedule, workload, taxes, and administrative responsibilities.
  • Want meaningful project-based work without committing to a traditional full-time employment structure.
  • Enjoy collaborating with a mission-driven team while maintaining professional independence.
  • Have specialized expertise they want to apply across different clients, communities, and industries.
  • Are looking to build a consulting portfolio or expand their experience in systems-change work.

These opportunities may not be the right fit for candidates who are currently seeking guaranteed full-time hours, traditional employee benefits, or a fixed long-term employment arrangement.

Our Work Style

Winged Wolf’s work is collaborative, adaptive, and grounded in trust. We work across projects, time zones, sectors, and client contexts, which means our team members and contractors need to be comfortable communicating clearly, managing deadlines, and shifting between different types of work.

Much of our work can be completed remotely, and we support location independence whenever project needs allow. Some projects may require scheduled virtual meetings, client-facing sessions, live facilitation, travel, or availability during specific business hours. When that is the case, we aim to communicate those expectations clearly in advance.

Our work style values:

  • Clear communication.
  • Responsiveness to clients and teammates.
  • High-quality deliverables.
  • Thoughtful preparation.
  • Respect for deadlines.
  • Adaptability when project needs change.
  • Professionalism in both independent and collaborative work.

We care less about where work happens and more about whether the work is done with excellence, integrity, and care.

Location Independence

Many of our projects can be supported remotely, allowing contractors to work from the location where they are most productive and grounded. This can be especially valuable for professionals who prefer flexible, independent work structures.

Leadership Development

Winged Wolf’s work often focuses on leadership, facilitation, organizational development, systems change, and capacity-building. Contractors have opportunities to strengthen their own leadership practice by contributing to real client projects, observing complex systems, and helping organizations move from planning to implementation.

Exposure to Diverse Clients and Industries

Our projects may involve nonprofits, public agencies, coalitions, community-based organizations, human services systems, housing and homelessness initiatives, health-related systems, workforce efforts, and other mission-driven partners.

This variety gives contractors the opportunity to build broad experience across sectors, client types, and project models.

Meaningful, Mission-Driven Work

Winged Wolf works with organizations that are trying to improve systems, strengthen communities, and support people more effectively. Contractors who join our project teams contribute to work that is practical, people-centered, and impact-oriented.

Portfolio-Building Experience

For consultants, writers, facilitators, trainers, analysts, and project specialists, Winged Wolf projects can provide valuable experience and examples of applied work. Depending on the project and confidentiality requirements, contractors may be able to build skills and experience in strategic planning, facilitation, training design, data analysis, reporting, governance support, technical assistance, and community engagement.

Professional Collaboration

Although 1099 contractors maintain their independence, they are not expected to work in isolation. Winged Wolf values clear scopes of work, collaborative planning, respectful communication, and shared commitment to producing strong client deliverables.

Candidate Experience and Hiring Process

We want our hiring and contractor selection process to be clear, respectful, and aligned with the type of work we do.

A typical process may include:

  1. Initial review
We review your background, experience, areas of expertise, and alignment with current or upcoming project needs.
  2. Introductory conversation
We may schedule a conversation to learn more about your skills, interests, availability, preferred work style, and experience with consulting or project-based work.
  3. Project fit discussion
For specific opportunities, we discuss the project scope, timeline, expected deliverables, compensation structure, communication expectations, and whether the role is a mutual fit.
  4. Work sample or scenario
Depending on the role, we may ask for a writing sample, facilitation example, portfolio item, or brief scenario-based response.
  5. Contractor agreement and onboarding
If selected, contractors complete the necessary agreement, tax documentation, confidentiality requirements, and project-specific onboarding before beginning work.

Because our opportunities are project-based, completing an initial conversation does not guarantee immediate work. However, we may keep aligned professionals in mind for future projects as needs arise.

Equal Opportunity and Inclusive Collaboration Statement

Winged Wolf Innovations is committed to working with people from diverse backgrounds, experiences, identities, and communities. Our work is strengthened by different perspectives, including lived experience, professional expertise, cultural knowledge, and community-rooted insight.

We are especially interested in collaborating with people who value equity, accessibility, trauma-responsive practice, cultural humility, and practical systems change.

Winged Wolf does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law.

What We Look For

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong follow-through and time management.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and evolving project needs.
  • Experience supporting clients, communities, nonprofits, public agencies, or mission-driven organizations.
